British Sugar Head Office

Main Contractor: Bowmer & Kirkland

Location: Peterborough

Contract Value: £1m

Completed: 2019

British Sugar’s new head office was designed with the aim to transform the company’s working environment whilst upholding its environmental responsibilities. The new building can accommodate over 350 employees which can now work in a mixture of formal and informal work hubs. Passive Haus principles were at the heart of the construction design, influencing every decision from the windows to how the building can collect and store water.

To create parts of the new façade we used 3mm mesh panels (DX-7193-XW – metallic concrete). This panelling was mounted on a light aluminium frame which was directly fixed to 240mm thick smooth Trimo panels; consisting of a 0.7mm thick prisma face RAL 9002 in colour, 240mm thick mineral fibre insulation and a 0.6mm thick white micro ribbed face to the internal aspect. Metclad Contracts also completed the building’s extensive roofing creating a hot melt permatec roof. Other high-quality suppliers were used including, Sarna, Kingspan, Tata and Nvelope.
