Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre
Main Contractor: Woodhead Group
Location: Sherwood Forest
Contract Value: £184,000
Completed: 2018
The newly located RSPB Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre was designed to protect the forest and increase engagement and understanding of this ancient woodland. The architect from JDDK Architects wanted to create a curved and twisted building to ‘reflect the tree canopy which sheltered Robin Hood’. This ambitious project also won the 2018 TeamKal Technical Excellence & Design – Highly Commended Award.
Metclad Contacts used various sized top hats and halters to form the roofs unusual shape, this was then finished with Kalzip 65/333 x 0.9mm sheets in RAL 8029. To complete the exterior FC Architectural polyester powder coated fascias, flashings and trims were used alongside gutters created within our own fabrications workshop.
