The 390,000 sq ft Friars Walk Development formed part of Newport’s regeneration programme, aiming to reignite the city’s retail and leisure landscape. The architect’s design philosophy was to create a series of buildings each with their own individual character, using a colour palette that reflected their local surroundings. The building’s dynamic architecture and prominent position have undoubtedly created a new benchmark for all future developments across the city. This project also won the 2016 National Roofing Awards Vertical Cladding / Rainscreen Award.

 

Metclad Contracts completed various parts of the shopping complex including the cinema, bus station and central shopping area. Due to the scale of the project Metclad worked with numerous suppliers including, Kalzip,BTS Fabrications, Euroclad and CS Building Products. To create the striking façade, we used Kingspan ACM alucobond cassette rainscreen panels in a variety of RAL colours ranging from 7030, 8002 to 6021.
